During the month of June, the American Dental Association (ADA), dental practices and businesses and nonprofits focused on oral health, including Northeast Delta Dental, celebrate National Oral Health Month by raising awareness about the importance of oral health and its connection to overall health. Our messages offer strategies to maximize oral health:
- Brush your teeth at least twice daily using fluoride toothpaste for two minutes, brushing all tooth surfaces and the gum line; and replace your toothbrush every few months.
- Floss between teeth and between teeth and the gum line at least once daily to remove food particles and plaque.
- Visit your dentist at least twice a year to have your teeth cleaned professionally and receive a comprehensive exam that allows for the early detection and treatment of dental disease.
- Food and beverage choices impact oral health, so avoid food and drinks that can cause cavities; and eat a balanced diet providing the nutrients needed for strong teeth and gums.
- Avoid using smoking and chewing tobacco and e-cigarettes to lower the risk of oral cancer.

Communicating about the importance of oral health and supporting oral health programs is a year-round commitment for us. Extending our mission to advance the dental health and overall wellness of our customers and the communities we serve, for the last thirty years the Northeast Delta Dental Foundation has awarded grants to initiatives in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont that provide oral health education and dental care to uninsured and underserved people. In 2024, it supported 59 organizations with $794,450 in grants. Grantees included dental clinics; in-school programs; scholarship, research, and education programs; and dentist recruitment efforts.
For the last twenty-seven years, we’ve also held an annual golf tournament to raise funds for our Foundation. The27th annual Thurston J. Carpenter Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025, at Breakfast Hill Golf Club in Greenland, New Hampshire. Last year, the tournament raised $21,335.78.
