I’m happy to share that Delta Dental Institute recently released its fifth annual national community impact report. The 2023 Community Impact Report, “Our mission, your health,” reports investments totaling $106.6 million made by Delta Dental member companies and their foundations to community programs focused on expanding access to care, advancing health equity, building resilient communities and innovating for a healthier tomorrow.
Delta Dental Institute was launched five years ago by Delta Dental Plans Association to underscore the connection between oral health and overall health through its oral health research, community outreach and advocacy by partnering with Delta Dental member companies and other dedicated partners across the country. Based in Chicago, Illinois, Delta Dental Plans Association is the not-for-profit national association of 39 independent Delta Dental member companies serving all 50 states, Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico. Delta Dental is the nation’s largest dental benefits provider, with the country’s largest dental network of approximately 152,000 participating dentists.
While Delta Dental has invested in the health of its communities since it was founded 70 years ago, five years of national reporting has showcased what we’ve been doing to support our communities and contribute to their wellbeing. From 2018 through 2023 Delta Dental impacted 95 million people, invested $1.6 billion, and volunteered 111,000 hours!
The Community Impact Report gives us the opportunity to report on the financial investments we’ve made over the last year and highlight one from each state in an interactive version of the report. In Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont, Northeast Delta Dental invested over $4.7 million through programs and initiatives; for example:
- In Machias, Maine, New York University College of Dentistry students collaborate with local partners to provide critically-needed dental care to those who would otherwise go untreated.
- In New Hampshire, The PLUS Company’s dental health education program serves adult clients with disabilities, many of whom encounter health challenges, including oral health challenges.
- The Vermont Head Start Association’s Tooth Tutor program helps Tooth Tutors (registered dental hygienists) reach more children and families with education and dental care to improve their oral health.
Northeast Delta Dental and our fellow Delta Dental member companies benefit from the community partnerships we’ve developed and appreciate those partners for helping us to improve the health, wellness and quality of life of the people we serve.
