Run Run Run

Tom (green jersey) running the raceAs the 2010 running season draws to a close, I was able to reach and surpass a wellness goal I had set for myself at the beginning of this year. Knowing I’m not getting any younger, I wanted to run in as many road races as is my age. On November 27, I turned 54, and on that date I ran my 57th race this year…and I have one more run coming up! For the most part it was a healthy season and I was able to meet or improve my times on many races. On the occasions where my hamstring acted up, my times were slower but in some ways, taking it easy on myself once in awhile was rewarding. As you can imagine, I’m competitive and want to be the best at everything I do, but what I garnered from my slower races was a sense of mindfulness which was liberating. So while I still run hard whenever I can, I also can appreciate the freedom of running in the moment. I’m already looking forward to the first road race of 2011!
