‘Tis the Season

Hello everybody.  ‘Tis the season when we reflect on the past and look forward to the future.  There are always things we wish we could change but just as many things for which to be grateful.  I try to live my life by the Golden Rule and do unto others as I would have them do unto me.  A sign of one’s mark in the world could be summed up in the lyrics of Paul McCartney, “the love you take is equal to the love you make,” or, you get what you give.  The world has seen turmoil in 2012, yet we know, working together, we can make this world a better place.  That has been my mantra for as long as I can remember and I’m a firm believer.

I slipped and fell on December 4, tearing my quad tendon which required immediate surgery.  Being an avid runner, I thought this was the worst thing that could happen.  Just the weekend before, I was celebrating achieving my running goal of completing 81 races for 2012.  Now suddenly I’m nearly immobile with a full leg cast weighing me down.  Why did this happen?  There’s no reasoning but in comparison to the events of last Friday in Newtown, Connecticut, it certainly reminded me to take the time to appreciate all that I have.  I am fortunate to have good health, a loving wife and family, and an amazing support system all around me; my injury will heal.  Nothing is more important than to be kind to one another – every day is a gift and a new opportunity to make a positive difference.  Do something extra to add value to your every day. May this holiday season bring joy and inspiration.  From my heart, peace be with you.
