Delta Dental History

Dental Service Corporations were first created by dentists in California, Oregon and Washington in the 1950’s with a mission to promote overall oral health by making dental care more accessible and affordable to the public. This mission continues today through our partnerships with dentists and customers, resulting in real solutions to oral health care with a focus on prevention. The Delta Dental Plan of New Hampshire, a not-for-profit 501(c)4 corporation originally created as New Hampshire Dental Service Corporation by an Act of our state legislators in 1961, is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Northeast Delta Dental, the umbrella organization of the Delta Dental Plan of Maine, Delta Dental Plan of New Hampshire and Delta Dental Plan of Vermont, is a member company of the Delta Dental Plans Association (DDPA) located in Oak Brook, Illinois. This Association is comprised of 39 independent dental service corporations across the nation that offer prepaid dental benefits in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
