National Children’s Dental Health Month

February is Children’s Dental Health Month and I encourage parents to work with teachers and school nurses to take on a greater role in children’s oral health.  Brushing twice a day and flossing daily are valuable habits to form at an early age to help prevent caries which are nearly 100 percent preventable, yet by the third grade over 50% of children in NH have experienced tooth decay.  With early intervention using sealants and topical fluoride treatments, tooth decay is almost entirely preventable.  It’s time to schedule a dental appointment if your child hasn’t been to see the dentist in the last six months. Together we can put an end to this preventable disease.
