Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters

Tom recieving his diplomaYou may have heard that I received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree at New England College’s convocation on September 7. While New England College chose to bestow this recognition of making a difference upon a single individual, the truth is the recognition belongs to every individual who has any association with Northeast Delta Dental (NEDD).

As a 501(c)4 corporation, there is an expectation that we give back to the community, and everyone involved with Northeast Delta Dental contributes to that end. This award belongs to my boards of directors/trustees, the employees at NEDD, the group purchasers and subscribers, and our participating member dentists. Board members approve the annual budget allocations for philanthropy; employees selflessly volunteer their time to not-for-profit endeavors; by selecting NEDD for their dental benefits, our groups and subscribers are keeping their dollars within our states which is beneficial to our citizenship in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont; and the very concept of a dental service corporation was initially created by the dental profession nearly fifty years ago.

We couldn’t do it without everyone, as goes the proverb which served as the title to Hillary Clinton’s book – “it takes a village.” And as I always say: no money, no mission. We are all in this together and all are deserving of this extraordinary recognition. Thank you!
