Mainebiz Recognizes Business Leaders of the Year

One of the keys to Northeast Delta Dental‘s success is our commitment to continuous quality improvement. We sponsor many events, and one of our favorite types are those that recognize outstanding leaders in our region’s businesses and nonprofits. Such recognition shines a spotlight on those that use best practices to increase customer satisfaction, encourage their employees’ ingenuity, and invest in their communities.

Recently we were privileged to sponsor the Mainebiz 2021 Business Leaders of the Year virtual awards event. Each year Mainebiz holds a reception with special presentations to recognize outstanding performance and contributions by business leaders who set the standard of doing business in Maine.

These seven people were honored as Business Leaders of the Year: Large Company Business Leader, General Manager of Puritan Medical Products, Scott Wellman; Mid-Sized Company Business Leaders, President, Denis Landry, and CEO, Kevin French, of Landry/French Construction; Entrepreneur Business Leaders: Vice President of Product Development, Karen Getz, Vice President of Marketing, Steve Getz, and CEO, Michael Ross, of Maine Crisp Co.; and Nonprofit Leader: President and CEO of The Jackson Laboratory, Edison Liu. More information is available in the March 22 issue of Mainebiz and on the Mainebiz website.

Puritan Medical Products was designated an essential business by the Trump administration and received $140 million in federal funding. Scott Wellman facilitated the launch of its new factories to manufacture swabs used in COVID-19 testing. Scott worked with Cianbro to find and build out factory space in Pittsfield and with Bath Iron Works to produce the machinery needed in the two Pittsfield factories. Puritan Medical Products is in the process of hiring 800 employees, adding to a growing workforce at its main site in Guilford.

The Senior Account Manager at our Saco office, Cindy Locke, was asked to introduce Scott at the awards event. She accepted proudly because Puritan Medical Products is one of her group accounts. In response to her note of congratulations to Scott before the event, he had this to say about the value of dental insurance as an employee benefit- “As we try to achieve 800 new hires, it becomes more important to have excellent benefits to attract the best talent. Delta Dental has always been a great partner, and we look forward to continued growth.”

Well done to all award recipients!
