February is National Children’s Dental Health Month

Did you know that by the third grade over 50% of children in NH have experienced tooth decay? These numbers are particularly troubling when one considers that caries are almost entirely preventable with early intervention using sealants and topical fluoride treatments. Good oral health is key for overall health. February is the month of smiles and an opportunity to focus on oral health education with your children. Brushing twice a day and flossing daily are valuable habits to form at an early age to help your child maintain a mouthful of healthy teeth for a lifetime.

As I mentioned in an earlier blog, we’ve partnered with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats to bring this message to the grassroots level. Northeast Delta Dental has extended an Oral Health Challenge to children 12 and under: brush and floss daily in-between dental office visits and earn two tickets to a 2011 Fisher Cats game! For details on the program, visit our Web site www.nedelta.com. If your child hasn’t seen the dentist in the last six months, make an appointment today.
